I can't log in, reset my password, or get my verification code. What should I do?
If you're having trouble logging in, try these steps:
Check your invite email. Look for your original april invite. It may have come from your payroll provider or financial institution.
Check your email for a verification code. Look for a six-digit code from [email protected], including in your spam folder. Codes expire after a few minutes, but you can select Resend code to get a new one.
If your account is locked, wait and try again. Entering the wrong code too many times can temporarily lock your account. The lockout typically lasts about 5 minutes. Once it ends, log out of the app, fully close it, wait at least a minute, and then log back in.
If you still can't log in, aren't receiving the code, or need to reset your password, contact our support team for help.
How do I get out of read-only mode?
Your federal return may be in read-only mode if you've already signed and submitted it but haven't submitted your state return yet.
Once your federal return is submitted to the IRS, you can't edit the federal portion. If your state return wasn't open for filing at the time or hasn't been submitted yet, you can still edit it until you submit it.
This is normal if you file early in the tax season.
What should I do if my information isn't saving?
If your filing status or other information isn't saving correctly, contact our support team for help.
They can help troubleshoot the issue or reset your return so you can start over if needed.
I uploaded or took a photo of a tax document, and now I'm getting errors or a rejection. What should I do?
When you upload or take a photo of a tax document, april automatically pulls information from it. Sometimes, the information may not be captured correctly.
If the error or rejection is related to a document you uploaded or photographed:
Delete the document causing the issue
Enter the information again manually
Select the folder icon to open Document Manager and confirm there are no other copies of the document
Double-check the information before submitting or resubmitting your return
Entering the information manually can help resolve errors caused by information that wasn't captured correctly.
My county list isn't loading, or it looks wrong. What should I do?
If the county list isn't loading correctly or shows unusual text, try reloading it:
Go back to the state selection screen and select a different state, then select Continue
Continue to the county question, select any county, then select Continue
On the next screen, select Back and return to the state selection screen
Select your original state, then select Continue
Return to the county question and select your county
This should reload the correct county list for your state.
Why am I being asked for spouse information if I'm filing as single?
First, check your filing status:
Go to About you and check How will you be filing for 2025?
If Married filing jointly is selected and you're filing as single, change it to Single and select Continue
If Single is already selected and you're still seeing spouse information:
Go back to About you
Select a different filing status, such as Married filing jointly, then select Continue
On the next screen, select Back
Change your filing status back to Single
Select Continue
This should remove the spouse information so you can continue filing.
What happens if my direct deposit information is incorrect?
If your bank account or routing number is incorrect, your refund may be delayed or sent to the wrong account.
Before submitting your return, double-check your account and routing numbers with your financial institution.
If you've already submitted your return with incorrect bank information, contact the IRS for next steps.
