How do I add my 1099-G?

If you received unemployment benefits during the tax year, you'll use the information on your Form 1099-G to report that income in april.

Form 1099-G is sent by a government agency to report certain types of payments, including unemployment compensation.

  1. Go to the Income section.

  2. Select Income from another source, then select Continue.

  3. Choose Unemployment, then select Continue.

  4. Select who received the 1099-G:

    • Choose yourself, or

    • Choose your spouse if you're filing jointly.

  5. Select Continue, then manually enter the information from your Form 1099-G.

    • Make sure all details match the form exactly.

  6. Select Continue to save your information.

Once this is complete, your 1099-G has been added. You won't be able to add more than one unemployment 1099-G.


How do I remove unemployment income from my return?

Unemployment income is removed by deselecting it, not by deleting a form.

  1. Go to the Income section.

  2. Keep Income from another source selected, then select Continue.

  3. On the next page, deselect Unemployment if it’s selected.

  4. Select Continue.

This will remove unemployment income from your tax return.


What if I uploaded a Form 1099-G?

If you uploaded one:

  1. Select the file folder icon to open your Document Manager.

  2. Delete the uploaded Form 1099-G.

  3. If more than one 1099-G was uploaded for the same individual, delete the extra copies.

  4. Return to Income and enter the information manually instead.


What if the information on my Form 1099-G is incorrect?

Make sure the information you enter in april matches your Form 1099-G.

If information on the form is missing or incorrect, contact the state agency that issued it and request a corrected Form 1099-G.


What if I didn't receive the unemployment income on my Form 1099-G?

If your Form 1099-G shows unemployment benefits you didn't receive, don't report that unemployment income on your return. It may be a sign of unemployment fraud or identity theft.
