How are IRA distributions, rollovers, and Roth conversions handled?
If you took money out of an IRA, rolled over retirement funds, or completed a Roth conversion, you'll generally receive a Form 1099-R reporting the distribution.
After you add your Form 1099-R in april, you may be asked additional questions about your distribution. Your answers help determine how much of your distribution is taxable.
What if my Form 1099-R has state tax withheld but no state distribution amount?
If your Form 1099-R shows state tax withheld (Box 14), but no state distribution amount (Box 16 is blank or $0), don't leave the State distribution field in april blank or remove and re-add your form.
For now, you'll need to enter an amount to continue:
Enter the taxable amount from Box 2a of your Form 1099-R in the State distribution field in the app
If Box 2a has no amount, use Box 1 (Gross distribution) instead
