I need to add or fix my Form 1095 info — how do I do that?

Explains how to add or fix Form 1095 information in april, including what to do if you selected the wrong form type and how the steps differ depending on whether your return was rejected or accepted by the IRS.

Updated yesterday

If you forgot to add a Form 1095, selected the wrong type, or need to update your health coverage information, what you do next depends on whether your return was rejected or accepted by the IRS.

If the IRS rejected your return

If your return was rejected, you’ll be able to add the missing info.

  1. Open april and select Make updates on the Tax home screen

  2. Review the issues shown and fix them as prompted

  3. Go to Deductions and credits

  4. Continue through the section and add or update your Form 1095 info when prompted

  5. Review your return and resubmit

I selected the wrong Form 1095 (for example, 1095-A instead of 1095-B)

If you chose the wrong health coverage form before submitting your return:

  1. Use the Back arrow to return to Deductions and credits

  2. Update the form type to match the form you received

  3. Confirm the information is correct

If your return was already accepted, you’ll need to file an amended return to fix the issue. For more information, see How do I file an amended return?

Adding or updating Form 1095-A (marketplace coverage)

If you had health insurance through HealthCare.gov or a state healthcare marketplace:

  1. Go to Deductions and credits and the We need your 1095-A information screen

  2. You'll be asked to confirm your marketplace coverage

  3. Select the option that says you had marketplace coverage to continue

  4. Enter the information from your Form 1095-A when prompted

If the IRS already accepted your return

Once the IRS accepts your return, it can’t be edited.

If you forgot to add a Form 1095 or selected the wrong type, you’ll need to file an amended return using Form 1040-X.

You can make changes in your amended return.
