How do I add multiple W-2 forms or make corrections?

Explains how to add multiple W-2 forms in april, what happens after you submit your return, and what to do if a W-2 is missing or incorrect.

Updated over a week ago

If you worked for more than one employer or noticed a W-2 is missing or incorrect, you can take care of it before submitting your return. Here’s what to know:

Add multiple W-2 forms

If you have more than one W-2 for the year, include all of them on the same tax return. This helps ensure your income is reported correctly and avoids delays with the IRS.

Note: You only file one tax return, even if you have multiple W-2s, so make sure they're all included in the same return.

Add multiple W-2s in april

To add more than one W-2:

  • Upload your W-2 or enter the details manually in the Income section

  • After you finish the first one, select Enter another job

  • Continue this until you've added all of your W-2s

You can add or edit W-2s anytime before you submit your return.

What happens after you submit your return

Once you submit your return, it’s read-only so the IRS receives exactly what you submitted.

After submission, you won’t be able to edit or add documents, including W-2 forms. To make any changes, you’ll need to file an amended return using Form 1040X.

If you need to make changes after submitting

If you realize something is missing or incorrect after submitting your return, you’ll need to wait for next steps.

  • If the IRS rejects your return, you can reopen it and fix the issue

  • If the IRS accepts your return, you'll need to file an amended return to make any changes

We’ll guide you when those options are available. For now, you can learn more in our related help article: How do I file an amended return?

Tips to avoid issues

  • Gather all W-2s before submitting your return

  • Double-check employer names, wages, and withholding amounts

  • Don’t submit a second return to add a missing W-2

Taking a few extra minutes to review your W-2s before submitting can save time and stress later. If you’re unsure whether everything is included, it’s okay to pause and double-check. You’re in control.
