When should I expect my refund if I claimed the EITC or ACTC?
When should I expect my refund if I claimed the EITC or ACTC?

This article was updated for Tax Year 2023, last edited on December 18th, 2023.

If you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), you can expect to get your refund after mid-February if:

  • You file your return online (e-filing)

  • You choose to get your refund by direct deposit

  • The IRS found no issues with your return

EITC or ACTC refunds are not available until after the middle of February. This pertains to the entirety of your refund, not just the portion that is connected to the credit you claimed on your tax return. The IRS might require further information from you regarding your return if you claim the EITC or ACTC. If so, a letter will be sent to you.

You can track your refund status with the IRS Where's My Refund? Tool.
